San Michele sits 25 feet from the water's edge, on a spot fortified by the Spanish in the early 1500's and prized ever since as a protected anchorage. The site is surrounded by water on three sides, possessing extraordinary vistas of mountains meeting the Caribbean, stands of bamboo and fruit trees, and an unspoiled sea sometimes punctuated by the dugout canoes of local fisherman. This part of Jamaica is renowned for its deep-sea fishing and excellent snorkeling, with beautiful coralheads right at hand. San Michele has over an acre of expansive lawn that meets the Caribbean Sea at its small sand beach. Its private island, reached by footbridge, has lounge chairs and hammocks in both sun and shade, steps into the sea, a freshwater shower, stereo, and bar. The property now contains a large swimming pool pavilion (also with stereo and bar), which serves as an outdoor living and dining room for the home. This sea level property of expansive lawn space well suits groups with very small children or with elderly visitors. This property contains a main house which was significantly remodeled in 1999 and then got a new second floor addition in early 2000. This addition contains two magnificent seaview master bedrooms/baths and a stunning outdoor terrace tucked behind the two enormous palm trees. The first floor now has an expansive living room, a large dining room, the two original bedrooms and baths, and an enormous kitchen and staff porch. The adjacent guest cottage contains two more bedrooms and baths, and has a third room which can be utilized by children if necessary. If your vacation ideal includes hearing the sound of waves at your doorstep, sleeping in an old canopy bed, and enjoying beautifully served meals prepared by your own staff, then you will agree that a stay at San Michele is an unforgettable experience.
